I want to have tea with Sir Hugh! Right now!!
-
Apparently, Greg thought I was in danger of actually getting something done today, because he sent me a link to a blogpost guaranteed to make me waste time. It’s from FX Cuisine, the globe-trotting adventures of a Swiss cheese-lover named Francois. I was okay with it when he was just going on about handcrafted cheeses … and then he had to go and have tea in London.
This is a very good restaurant, says Sir Hugh with his eyes staring in mid air, obviously relishing some gastronomic memory. …
We are at the Wolseley, a spectacular 1920 building that … remained a bank until 2003 when two bright restaurantuers turned it into one of the most stunning architectures I’ve eaten in.
Clotted cream is an English specialty, originally from Cornwall. You make clotted cream by filling a giant pot with cream and gently evaporate the water over a low fire until the cream thickens and takes the ivory patina of the Elgin Marbles, one of Sir Hugh’s favorite works of art.
“I hope you like this place,” says Lady Gaynor, then she adds, “We came here last year with Princess Alexandra.”
I say I love the place, but who is Princess Alexandra, wondering if that might be some local pop star.
“She is one of the Queen’s cousins,” she explains with a courteous smile.
Read the rest HERE, if you can stand to hear yourself whimper. (And by the way, all the pictures come from FX Cuisine. Oh fine, so he’s a good photographer too. My jealous heart brims over!)

I think it’s downright ascetic of you to avoid mentioning the guy’s discussion of clotted cream.
Now I’m going to be thinking about really good tea and scones all day. Blast!
BTW, love the redesign of the site — nicely done.
Oh dear! CLOTTED CREAM!!!!! You can’t find good clotted cream outside of Great Britain. I want to buy a plane ticket so I can go here! I guess I’ll just have to content myself with going and reading some Jane Austen.
