Answer to prayer

• I just thought I’d give an update on this prayer request about my friend, Laura, whose father from Roma­nia had a major heart attack and stroke while he was here vis­it­ing. I’m glad to say that the hos­pi­tal has agreed to foot the bill to send Laura’s father, Nico­lae, home to Roma­nia. It’ll cost about $20,000 to do it, but it’ll be cheaper for them to do that than to keep car­ing for him with no end in sight. (Since he’s not a US cit­i­zen, he wasn’t qual­i­fied for any spe­cial Medicare deals.) The hos­pi­tal was a lit­tle rude to the fam­ily, mak­ing the flight arrange­ments with so lit­tle com­mu­ni­ca­tion with Laura that her mother almost wasn’t able to get a reser­va­tion on the same flight. But it’s still an answer to prayer.

  So Nico­lae and his wife will fly home on Fri­day. Laura had a sud­den attack of appen­dici­tis on Mon­day and had to have an emer­gency appen­dec­tomy. But after she fin­ishes recov­er­ing from that, and after she sees her par­ents off on the flight, she can “relax” and start tak­ing care of her new baby(!)

  Eek indeed! I couldn’t believe Laura had this lat­est emer­gency. (She ended up just a few doors down from her father at the hos­pi­tal.) But she’s been remark­ably tough and upbeat about it. It’s a bit of an inspiration.
