Late September

It’s this time of year again. So nice for the temperatures to drop. And Juliet to start chasing Romeo around the tree again. And trees to just start changing out of the summer colors. And I picked up a couple to show the range you’ve got right now. Most of the trees are still green, but there are a couple that make an early start, and on those ones there’s usually a branch or two that just forge ahead.It’s enough to make Clementine’s coonhound blood start to act up. She forgets that she has to do her business so she can get back in the house and get something to eat. She forgets that she should make a circuit of the yard and make sure everything’s ship-shape. She just goes out a couple steps and stands and sniffs the air. Apparently, she doesn’t have to move around — she can find out everything she needs to know from just standing there with her nose up. I’d love to know everything that she finds out that way. It must just smell so September

Someday, I want to visit the East Coast in autumn, so gorgeous.
The good thing is that you really have more options for seeing fall colors than I think people know. We’re in Missouri and they’re pretty darn spiffy. Greg just came from Rhode Island and he said their fall is ahead of ours. So where they have the big “fireworks” in September, I guess, we usually get the best of it in the first weeks of October.
But of course the East Coast/New England area has an ambiance that kind of goes with the whole thing better — littler house all together, the coastal thing and roads that wind around more so you have more Kodak moments.
Sort of off-topic, but people have the impression that Missouri is flat like Kansas. It’s actually not; it’s quite hilly. Pretty country.
Even here in northern Nevada we get some changes; when it gets cold the aspens turn a lovely shivery yellow, and so do I.
That would be kind of cool to see (the trees, not you). Do the cottonwoods lose leaves? It seemed to me that the whole area wasn’t much for fall colors, but like everything else in the desert, maybe that’s just because you have to know where to look.
