• “It was 20 years ago today, Sergeant Pep­per taught the band to play …”

  Or some­thing like that.

  

  This is what it’s all for, what it’s all about. And no, I don’t mean the teapot that eagle-eyed indi­vid­u­als will detect on top of the fax machine (although it was a fine assam blend with just the right amount of milk in it).

  On May 20, 1990, I mar­ried Greg, and since then, he has been the MOST supris­ing, enchant­ing, exas­per­at­ing, hilar­i­ous per­son ever. No one touches my heart more. No one can take my peace away faster and then return it with inter­est. No one indulges my fool­ish fan­cies more or rewards me nearly as much for being a grown-up.

  So that’s the way it is. Twenty years that seem much shorter and much longer all at the same time.

  Lord, have mercy on old mar­ried people.

  I love the photo. The man is in his ele­ment with all those cables and wires sur­round­ing you. It looks just like my house.

  I love it all. My wife would take the same photo of me, except I’d be wear­ing my yel­low happy face pajama pants. We cel­e­brated 17 a few days ago and she said, “you still make me laugh”. There’s a lot to be said for that. Con­grats and many more.
