Saturday morning in September

  • Goofing around more on Facebook, I’ve become a fan of those short updates. So here’s the way it is today out our way:
Greg and I are working. Oh well. Owning your own business sometimes means that weekends are just workdays with different television at the end. On the other hand:

    • I’m listening to the dog snore. We’ve been slowly making changes to my office, and now it almost functions more like a parlor than an office sometimes. Greg has been working on his laptop in one chair, and the dog just realized today that sleeping in the other chair means she gets to be with the people, look out the window AND take advantage of sunspots. So she’s one happy, sleepy puppy.
    • I’m also eating a banana split concoction that I came up with. It’s low-calorie, low-fat, high-protein and I can throw it together in five minutes. Oh, and it tastes good. Lovable. (I’ll put the recipe, such as it is, at bottom.)
    • I’m still happy from the fact that yesterday I heard the high school marching band practicing. That means fall is on the way!
    • Our reward for getting our work done is to go out in the late afternoon to grab a bite and let Greg take pictures of the soybean fields. That may sound odd, but at this time of year, the dense plantings of lush, leafy beans transition from green to pale yellow, and it’s a treat for the eye. We’ve tried for several years to capture it, but never gotten it quite right. If he gets good results, I’ll pass them along.

So there it is. Many reasons to be happy. Okay … back to work.

    Ingredients

    • 1 medium banana, cut up into chunks
    • 1 (6 ounce) container Yoplait Lite Bananas and Strawberries yogurt
    • 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder
    • 1/2 cup fat-free whipped cream or whipped topping

In a bowl, combine banana chunks, yogurt and protein powder. Mix with a spoon until they’re mixed in together. Top it off with another dollop of whipped topping and enjoy!

The calorie count of the whole thing is about 300 calories, which may seem a little steep. But for that, you’re getting a hefty dose of protein from the yogurt and the protein powder, and this’ll likely fill you up for hours. If you still feel guilty, though, pour it into a couple bowls and share it with a friend or two.

Its good to have work even if it has to be done on weekends. I know its fall here because we had our first under 100 degree day recently. By December the leaves should start turning.

  • Ay carumba! If I had to put up with a lot of 100-degree days, forget the leaves turning — *I’d* start turning. Purple, I think. Maybe it would be pretty(?)
