  • By way of PowerLine, this reminder of another British leader that knew what to say:

This is only the beginning of the reckoning. This is only the first sip, the first foretaste of a bitter cup which will be proffered to us year by year unless by a supreme recovery of moral health and martial vigour, we arise again and take our stand for freedom as in olden time.

And also this sobering article in National Review Online about why those words may prove prophetic. Who knows? One of the only weapons that terrorists always have on their side is unpredictability. But a bin Laden letter suddenly surfaces? Sounds just too convenient. And the timing of these attacks — right after the UK announces it will pull troops from Iraq? — suggest that they were pulled off not at the perfect moment, but just at the most opportune.

But worth noting the statistics in the article: London has had 126 terrorist attacks since the late 60′s, but never anything of this magnitude. The local response makes more sense in light of this. I’m still hoping that the official and national response won’t be to attempt to revert to more useless appeasement.

    Also worth noting:

All right, that’s IT for awhile. Must … do … work. No more blogging! (until I hear something else good.)
