8 things about me

  • I was tagged by Handmaid Mary Leah to give eight random facts about myself.

It actually took me a little while to come up with them, which ought to knock down the idea that these are all that random. But anyway, I’ll try not to make a simple thing complicated …

    1. I’ve sung a Blues Brothers medley in an international competition and won. I was singing in a barbershop chorus of 130 women. We sang the medley — complete with sunglasses and black hats — as part of our show package before a panel of judges and an audience of 10,000 people.
    2. While still in Barbershop World, I sang in a double quartet at the House of Blues in West Hollywood for their gay Christmas party. It was pretty weird, but at least they tipped well.
    3. For a year I created a comic strip called “Happily Ever After”. It was about the frog prince and his kingdom — I got the idea from hearing Peter Gabriel’s song “Kiss that Frog”. Doing the comic strip was a lot of fun, but since it only ever ran in one paper, it didn’t exactly pay the rent.
    4. For a couple years, Greg and I lived next door to Michelle Pfeiffer’s parents.
    5. As an art student, I got to work on a section of “The Great Wall of Los Angeles,” one of the longest murals in the world. I worked on the shading for this runner for the Olympics section. So good for me, but … another non-paying gig.
    6. I actually know what the absolute value of pi is, but I’ve decided to just keep it to myself.
    7. My favorite show when I was a kid was “My Favorite Martian.”
    8. Weird eating habit: I don’t like mixing flavors at a meal. So I’ll often work my way around the plate eating all of one thing at a time. And I usually don’t drink anything until I’m done. I think my taste buds are the better for my dedication to purity.

And can I count as a bonus random fact that I can’t really think of eight other people to tag? I think this one has made the rounds already, so I’m out of fresh tagees. But if you haven’t done it yet and want to, feel free. It’s a bit of fun.

Very cool “random” facts — and thanks for the link to the Mural — I hadn’t heard of that before.

Technically I have been tagged with this one as well, but as I can’t think of 8 random things that are worth posting, I am pretending I didn’t see it :)

  • As far as meme’s go its not an easy one…
    good stuff!

  • Great list! Wow!

  • Deb

    What a fun list.

I’ve given you a Blogger Reflection Award at my blog. So, there’s yet another list for you to come up with :)

I love it! and yeah, I’ve been tagged too, but I’m trying to find time to write it up in a way that either doesn’t scandalize people and sounds humble. :)

  • Catherine:
Mural: Boy, that was a lot of years ago. I didn’t realize until I looked it up that the section I worked on was the last one they did. Hope it wasn’t anything I did. (Hey, I was young. I thought all runners were bright red!)

Okay, now I’m just intrigued. If the danger is to be either scandalous or braggadocious, your list must be something like:
1-Won a Nobel peace prize, a Pulitzer and an Emmy. No big deal.
    2-Am a cross-dressing foot-fetishist.

    Now I can’t wait.
