Litigious Society update — holiday edition

• Okay, hope­fully we all have more impor­tant things on our minds these days, but who’s sil­lier — the Bay Area lawyer is suing to get those lit­tle sil­ver balls used for hol­i­day cake and cookie dec­o­ra­tion (called “dragees,” appar­ently) banned because he says they’re toxic, or the peo­ple newly deprived of dragees who say things like “We can’t do this — my daugh­ter is going to be mis­er­able. “? I think the lawyer wins the silli­ness con­test on that, but just barely. Read about it here.

  Well, yes. I sup­pose it does sort of go on and on. Con­sider for example:

  * the soci­ety that pro­duces lit­tle metallic-looking sil­ver balls that you can eat

  * the per­son that names them “dragees”

  * a fac­tory that makes them

  * any indus­try that would be greatly put out if they were banned, and YET …

  * … that same indus­try react­ing to the as-yet-undecided law­suit by get­ting rid of them

  Yep, lots of silliness.
