What’s all this then?

As I’ve been saying for months now, and Greg has been insisting for years, it was time to chuck out the old This Side of Glory and embrace the now. I think I may miss a little of the simplicity of that old theme, but I won’t miss the bother that came with trying to prop up coding that was a century old in blog-years. Hopefully, this one will offset any shocks that come with its flashy sliding banners by being more stable overall and giving the world a little less unasked-for spam.
As you’ll see there are some extra bells and whistles, and some of them I’m not quite ringing and tweeting quite right yet, so if things look a little broken here and there, just comment below and I’ll get on it. Hope everyone likes the new fun!

Whoa! I go to work for a week and come back and you’ve remodeled!! Nice look.
Hey, you betcha! I’m a little embarrassed at how little work it really took to do it. You can compare me with one of those clients I’m sure you hate who just cannot make up her mind and keeps looking at swatch after swatch. Greg had been sending me links to WordPress themes for about a year, but I couldn’t make my peace with any of them.
Once I was out of time and had to make a switch, I just held my nose and picked one and it didn’t really hurt all that much. One of the things I like about the new deal is getting to play with those slider graphics at the top. I’ll probably be a little self-indulgent with those for a while until I get it out of my system.
Of course, I see I’ll have to get some image to put in place of that placeholder image on a comment. Details, details.
I like WordPress’ stuff, but I just don’t have the time and motivation to migrate my blog to another learning curve no matter how simple it is. sigh.
I hear you on that.
In case it’s not obvious, Greg’s the IT Department around here. He’s the one who got me to start blogging in the first place (and likes to remind me of that, which is probably fair) and he’s the one who keeps challenging me to push the envelope.
So in my case, I had already been forced out of my comfort zone and into some html coding. I don’t think WordPress demands a rocket-scientist level of knowledge, but since nearly nothing is as user-friendly as Blogspot, there would be a learning curve.
As you can tell from the icons next to the blogroll entries, you still have a lot of company.
Too bad, though. Think how super-fine Curmudgeophan the Recluse would look in a big slidey, fancy banner!
