Lord have Mercy — what a hor­ri­ble thing to have hap­pen on a cruise.

Yes, it was the first thing like that I’d ever heard of. But it seemed like it could’ve been much worse. The one per­son who died appar­ently had a heart attack, and there was some con­jec­ture that that per­son was the smoker whose smol­der­ing cig­a­rette started the fire. (BTW, I don’t think you’re sup­posed to smoke in any of the rooms.) Some peo­ple hos­pi­tal­ized for smoke inhala­tion, and of course a lot of dam­age to the cab­ins and — I assume — the things that peo­ple were keep­ing in them. But still, as these things go, it could’ve been much worse.
