“If you cannot be merciful …”

I just input a new quote to show up on the “A Word” column at right. But that section has a very limited word count, and so sometimes I have to cut off a lot of good stuff. That doesn’t seem like a very nice thing to do to one of the luminaries of the Orthodox Church, plus the entire quote is very interesting. So here it is in its entirety:
If you cannot be merciful, at least speak as though you are a sinner. If you are not a peacemakers, at least do not be a troublemaker. If you cannot be assiduous, at least in your though be unlike a sluggard. If you are not victorious, do not exalt yourself over the vanquished. If you cannot close the mouth of a man who disparages his companions, at least refrain from joining him in this.
