Off to chant and pray

• Just thought I’d men­tion that I’ll be off in Anti­ochian Vil­lage till next week at the Sacred Music Insti­tute. Ought to be fun — just like last year — but I’m not sure I’ll get blog oppor­tu­ni­ties, so I’ll see every­one when I get back. I’ll be the one who really knows how to do Tone 7!

  Actu­ally, I don’t know how it is for Highly Trained Choir Peo­ple, but if I can find a silly song starter like that, it often works bet­ter for me than the apichima. The prob­lem is that other chanters look­ing at my book are likely to see “Hi ho, hi ho” or “Fly me to the moon” writ­ten in the mar­gin. I’ll have to work on that.

  Still not as embar­rass­ing as hav­ing to sing the first three notes of “Bali Hai” to remem­ber what a sev­enth inter­val sounds like.
