I just entered the “acquire inward peace” line from St. Seraphim below into the Quotes section, so it’ll show up as one of the randomly occurring quotes in the right column. The one line version is probably every Orthodox person’s favorite quote (and all I could fit into the parameters of that section), but here’s the longer version that appeared in “Daily Lives”:
When the Spirit of God descends upon a man and overshadows him with the fullness of His outpouring, then his soul overflows with a joy not to be described, for the Holy Spirit turns to joy whatever He touches. The kingdom of heaven is peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Acquire inward peace, and thousands around you will find their salvation.
Here is another quote I liked:
The Lord Jesus in His mercy grants rest to each according to his works — to the great according to his greatness and to the little according to his littleness; for he said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions” (John 14:2). Though the kingdom is one, yet in the one kingdom each finds his own special place and his own special work.
– Isaias of SketisAnd here’s one I came across from a non-Christian source. It has been quoted frequently, but I still find it meaningful:
I slept and dreamt that life was joy.
I awoke and saw that life was service.
I acted and behold, service was joy.– Rabindranath Tagore

I’ve never read more than the one line version (and you are right, it’s one of my favorites). Thank you!
Hey — I love that quote — makes me want to pray more. Are you aware of any resources online that have pithy Orthodox quotes — one-liners preferably…I have a whiteboard outside my office that would be a great platform for propagating an Orthodox worldview in little one-line sermons. I tried searching but usually the Orthodox quotes I find are fairly long…no one will stop to read those I’m sure. Let me know what you find — thanks, Grace!
