    I think I need to add this book to my read­ing list.

  • That’s what I said (about both of those).

    When he gets into the most extreme cases, it sounds like some­one who has rearranged his (or her) whole life to try to accom­mo­date the sick­ness inside, and would like to rearrange other peo­ple as well. I’m glad to say I may only have glimpsed peo­ple of this sort, but yes, there is some­thing truly insane about the state they’re liv­ing in. And the fact that you can’t help them until their life comes to some cri­sis point (if then) makes it a help­less and mad­den­ing thing to know and care about them.

    And of course, we all rec­og­nize some char­ac­ter­is­tics of our own and have to con­sider that we’re some­where on this continuum.

    It’s pretty sober­ing stuff.
