All right, I’m going to apologize in advance. Because although the YouTube video below made me laugh so hard I cried, and though it also has something in it for both sides of the political spectrum, it has some bad words in it — one F, an S and a GD — and some other grown-up irreverance. So if stuff like that is off-limits to you, then give this a pass. But if it’s not, … well, I’m not going to watch it again until I get a hanky.
Those who may want a chance to hear from the real person may want to listen to her speech at the RNC Convention tonight. I can’t catch it, but Greg has promised to record it for me.
By the way, if you’ve been worried at all that Sarah didn’t know what she’d be up against by running, here’s a bit of perspective. A member of the McCain’s staff was trying to warn her that there would probably be very serious attacks coming her way. He said that she just looked at him, and asked, “Do you know what the difference is between a hockey mom and a pit bull?”
He shook his head.
“Lipstick,” she said.

That’s what I said. About both of those comments. I’ve probably watched it four times and I can finally make it through without laughing so hard I miss some of the words.

We never did hear any of Sarah Palin’s words at the convention. Her speech was written by Matt Scully, one of President Bush’s speechwriters, and reviewed and approved by the RNC.
But we did learn that she can sight-read off a teleprompter. That’s nice.
Well, by that logic, you’ve rarely heard Obama’s words either, or Hillary’s or any other political figure from a mayor to a president. Everyone uses speechwriters. Not sure where this new purism came from, but it’s likely to put this guy and this guy and this guy out of business.
And everyone uses teleprompters. Obama uses a teleprompter. Biden uses a teleprompter. What, you wanted them to write it all on their sleeve?
If knowing that a candidate employs talent and uses technology make you feel like you’re not seeing the “genuine” person, … well, you’ll be wanting to not vote at any level higher than dog-catcher, I guess?
Sarah’s RNC speech was amazing. And Philip, in case you missed it, the teleprompter did not pause during the many ovations she received. She spent a huge chunk of her speech reciting from memory and adlibbing. And she STILL gave a more relevant, inspired, and meaningful speech than any of the Obama speeches I have heard.
I haven’t been this fired up about a presidential election since Reagan.

I’m glad someone else said it first. I feel like too much of an Adoring Fangirl already. I’m probably more excited about her than I was about Reagan, but that’s because when he came along, I really wasn’t paying much attention to politics.

(CNN) — It appears Barack Obama’s teleprompter is hitting the campaign trail.
The Democratic presidential nominee has never tried to hide the fact he delivers speeches off the device, though normally he doesn’t use one at standard campaign rallies and town hall events.
But the Illinois senator used a teleprompter at both his Colorado events Monday — making for a particularly peculiar scene in Pueblo, where the prompter was set up in the middle of what is normally a rodeo ring.
