Mayors on drugs

Remember Ray Nagin, the mayor of New Orleans who made such a great impression on us all during Hurricane Katrina by whining, complaining and leaving school buses to flood when they could have been taking people out of harm’s way?
Well, it’s official now. He’s a loon.
Surely God is mad at America. He sent us hurricane after hurricane after hurricane, and it’s destroyed and put stress on this country. … surely he is upset at black America also. We’re not taking care of ourselves.
Taking care of ourselves?? I’m thinking the Hon. Mayor has been “taking care of” a whopping amount of crack cocaine. Just so we’re clear: if Pat Robertson had even hinted at this, let alone belted it out in front of reporters at a Martin Luther King memorial service, his ass would be … well, I don’t know what would happen to his ass, but it wouldn’t be pretty.
But wait … it gets better.
It’s time for us to come together. It’s time for us to rebuild New Orleans — the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans. This city will be a majority African American city. It’s the way God wants it to be. You can’t have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn’t be New Orleans.
A chocolate New Orleans??? Does God offer that with sprinkles or what? Honest to goodness, you gotta love these guys for offering some comic relief. I’d for dang sure vote him out of office as soon as possible, but still, it’s nice to have a chuckle. Martin Luther King celebrations are darn short on those.

Surreal. BTW, I’m from Baltimore, so when I read ‘I’m thinking the Hon. Mayor’ what I heard was, “I’m thinking, ‘hon, Mayor…’ ” Probably looses something in the translation.
