Wacky mayor update

Mayor Nagin tried to explain the “chocolate New Orleans” comment from yesterday. Apparently one TV station had noticed that’s it’s, y’know, crazy … and, um,… racist … and so they were good enough to let him round out his thoughts:
How do you make chocolate? You take dark chocolate, you mix it with white milk, and it becomes a delicious drink. That is the chocolate I am talking about.
Ohhh. Much better. And after that, we’re going to dunk the giant cookie of federal funding into the black and white delicious drink of New Orleans and produce the soggy crumbs of … well, of corrupt Democrats who are past their expiration date, I’m thinking.
I don’t know about politics, but Nagin has a future with Nabisco anyway. I’m off to the store right now! Yum!

Here’s the original quote from the AP story:
“It’s time for us to come together. It’s time for us to rebuild New Orleans — the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans,” the mayor said. “This city will be a majority African American city. It’s the way God wants it to be. You can’t have New Orleans no other way.”
“this city will be a majority African American city.” He was totally clear on what he meant .

I didn’t mean to say he was unclear. I meant to say he was being bizarre. And saying to one race that a major city will predominantly consist of that race also strikes me as racist. (What if you’re white or Hispanic or Asian — are you supposed to miss the fact that the mayor just made it clear this city has to meet racial quotas that don’t include you?)
I couldn’t help having fun with his strange way of expressing himself. But actually, his meaning doesn’t strike me as all that funny. It’s an embarrassment.
